ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Bawat Bata Makababasa Program (BBMP) is a national initiative of the Department of Education that aims to ensure every child learns to read—and loves to read.
At the heart of the program is a 20-day reading intervention designed to help struggling readers in the early grades (Grades 1 to 3) build foundational literacy skills. Through evidence-based strategies, engaging learning materials, and personalized support, BBMP empowers young learners to reach grade-level reading proficiency.
To make this vision a reality, the program also focuses on building tutor capacity, strengthening assessment and monitoring systems, and creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment—complete with vision screening, nutritious snacks, and active involvement of families and communities.

WHAT THE PROGRAM OFFERS
✅ 20-day Reading Tutorial Sessions for struggling Grade 1–3 readers
✅ Assessment-based interventions tailored to each learner's reading profile
✅ Comprehensive training for volunteer tutors and educators
✅ Engaging, age-appropriate reading materials in print and digital formats
✅ Vision screening and eyeglasses for learners with visual impairments
✅ Nutritious snacks during tutorial sessions
✅ Strong parent and community involvement to reinforce reading habits at home
PILOT IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE
🗓 Call for Volunteers: Open until April 23, 2025
🗓 Tutoring Schedule: May 8 – June 6, 2025
📍 Target Areas:
Region IX (All SDOs)
Selected divisions in Region VI and Region VII, particularly those affected by the Kanlaon eruption
This pilot implementation aims to reach 85,979 learners with the help of approximately 8,600 volunteer tutors, supported by teachers and schools across the participating regions.

As a volunteer tutor, you will:
- Undergo training in effective, research-based reading instruction
- Be paired with learners in your local community
- Conduct small group reading sessions
- Help learners develop critical foundational skills
